KARACHI: The first ever National Beach Games will be held here at the Sea View from September 18-20, the organisers announced on Wednesday.
In the three-day affair, which will be organised by Sindh Olympic Association (SOA), athletes from across the country will be showcasing their talent in 12 disciplines.
The disciplines are archery (men, women), swimming (men, women), basketball (men, women), bodybuilding (men), handball (men, women), ju-jitsu (men, women), kabaddi (men, women), rowing (men), rugby (men), sailing (men, women), volleyball (men, women) and wrestling (men).
Malakra (men), sepaktakraw (men, women), tug-of-war (men) and soccer (women) have been kept as demonstration sports.
Those players who are to feature in the Asian Beach Games in Vietnam later this month will not take part in these competitions.
“Players whose final entries for the 5th Asian Beach Games have been sent to the organising committee and their training camps have begun will not be eligible to represent their organisations,” Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) said.
“As such there shall be no break in the national training camps organised by the federations and Pakistan Sports Board for the continental event which are scheduled to be held from September 24 to October 3 at Danang, Vietnam,” the POA added.
It said that the strength of the provincial contingents for participation in the forthcoming event shall be as under.
Punjab: 50 athletes/officials, five contingent officials; Balochistan: 50-5
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 50-5
Sindh: 50-5
FATA: 20-3
Islamabad: 20-3
AJK: 20-3
Gilgit-Baltistan: 20-3.
They shall be provided traveling, accommodation and daily allowance by the hosts as per rules, the POA said.
