Karachi

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) sent Muttahida Qaumi Movement MPA Shiraz Waheed to the central prison on judicial remand on Tuesday.

The investigation officer told the court that Waheed was arrested for having distributed CDs containing the controversial speech that MQM founder Altaf Hussain had made on August 22.

A case against the legislator was registered at Sohrab Goth Police Station and he was arrested in Landhi on August 25.

Witnesses identified before the judicial magistrate (South) 26 men as those who had attacked two media houses after the speech.

Sindh Rangers Director General Major General Bilal Akbar stated on Monday that the attacks on the media houses were pre-planned.

He said six key suspects in custody had given the names of Muttahdia workers who had brought sticks for the attacks and those who had brought weapons to Karachi’s security red zone.
