KARACHI: Famous television figure Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain claims he is getting death threats, and that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain would be responsible if any harm comes to him.

"I am being told I am a bigger traitor than even Mustafa Kamal, and that I will be killed in a more painful manner than Kamal," he said. Aamir Liaquat said he was getting the death threats from unknown numbers, Geo News reported.

“I just want to clarify that if I am killed, don't let them label me as a worker of the MQM. If I am killed, bury me wrapped in the Pakistan flag, because I am not affiliated with them," he said. Aamir Liaquat said the MQM London and Altaf Hussain would be responsible if any harm comes to him.

The former MQM leader's statement comes days after controversial anti-Pakistan speech by Altaf Hussain which led to violent protests in Karachi and MQM workers and supporters storming the offices of television channels.

Law enforcers launched a swift crackdown on MQM following the speech, sealing its offices and detaining several of its workers and leaders, including Aamir Liaquat Hussain. The television personality resigned from the MQM shortly after he was released from Rangers custody.

Speaking to Geo News anchor Shahzeb Khanzada, he said that he recognised the voices. "I recognise the voices, and I will tell those people about these voices that I want to," said Aamir Liaquat.

"But they shouldn't say that there is confusion. There is no confusion," he said, referring to Farooq Sattar's words earlier in the show. "I know what those words were and what they meant. I was told that I love the Pakistani flag and I will be buried in it very soon," he said.

When asked, he denied that it was Altaf Hussain's voice. "But these are very familiar voices," he said, adding that they were linked to the party's 'militant wing'. He said he was "not a traitor, but a patriot", and he urged Farooq Sattar to completely disassociate himself from Altaf Hussain.
