IBA players shine in inaugural AKU Sports Olympiad

KARACHI: Institution of Business Administration (IBA) won women’s badminton, women’s table tennis and men’s table tennis events in the inaugural Aga Khan University (AKU) Sports Olympiad on Wednesday here at AKU Sports Centre Gymnasium.

IBA women defeated AKU 2-0 in badminton final. IBA’s Mahnoor Shehzad defeated Kainat Asif 21-02, 21-02, while Faryal Shehzad beat Fatima Parveen 21-11, 21-16.

In table tennis women’s event final, IBA thrashed hosts AKU 2-0. Iqra dropped a set before beating Nazia Ali 11-3, 8-11, 11-0 and Eraj sealed the triumph for IBA by beating Anila 11-4, 11-13, 11-7.

In men’s table tennis climax, IBA beat Nixor College (NC) 2-0. Anas dropped a set before beating Hamza 11-07, 10-12, 11-07. Moosa proved too good for Mehdi and recorded a straight-set 13-11, 11-08 triumph.

However, in men’s badminton final, Nixor College defeated IBA 2-1. IBA’s Mohsin Nisar put his team 1-0 up by beating Shehryar 21-17, 21-16. But Ahmed Asif of Nixor College defeated Shehryar Saleem 21-10, 21-10 to level the arrears.

In the doubles encounter, Shehryar and Ahmed of Nixor College defeated Mohsin and Shehryar of IBA 21-09, 21-16.

In men’s tennis final, Nixor College thrashed hosts AKU 2-0. Dawar Rehan blanked Jalal Khan 6-0, 6-0. Ibrahim Iftikhar recorded 6-0, 6-0 victory against Saad Farooq to seal the triumph for Nixor College.
