More arrests likely as top leaders named

LONDON: More arrests are expected in connection with the Dr Imran Farooq murder case after the Scotland Yard team came back from Pakistan where it interrogated the prime accused Mohsin Ali for two days, sources here have told Geo News.
The five-member Scotland Yard team, headed by the officer in-charge of the Dr Imran Farooq murder investigation, has recorded and videotaped the interrogation sessions in which Mohsin Ali answered all their questions.
The officers are expected to meet Shumaila Imran Farooq, the widow of the slain MQM leader, next week to update her on what was revealed during the interviews of Mohsin and other suspects Moazzam and Khalid Shamim.
According to the sources, Mohsin Ali Syed has named seven people who helped him and the other suspect Kashif Khan Kamran in London in carrying out the murder. The Scotland Yard is already aware of some of these names but Mohsin’s confirmation means that the murder investigations are likely to be expanded.
The Scotland Yard team will also submit its report next week to Richard Walton, the counter-terrorism head at Scotland Yard. Fresh arrests are also likely to be carried out in the coming weeks.
Farooq, 50, a founding member of MQM, was stabbed
and beaten to death in Edgware, northwest London, as he returned home from work on September 16, 2010.
Mohsin Ali Syed’s interview is so far the biggest development in the high-profile murder case.Sources in Pakistan told Geo News on Thursday that during his interview Mohsin Ali confessed to direct involvement in the murder.
Earlier in July, Mohsin Ali had admitted before a Pakistani JIT that he attacked the MQM leader with a knife ‘on the eve of Altaf Hussain’s birthday’.
Ali had also revealed that he was an activist of the APMSO the student wing of MQM formed on June 11, 1978. He told the JIT that Moazzam Ali was the one who arranged his and Kashif’s travel to the UK. Sources quoted Mohsin as admitting that he used to work in Moazzam Ali’s company, Com-net.
Moazzam Ali, according to sources, had also named five leaders of MQM for their alleged involvement in the murder case of Dr Imran Farooq, the MQM chief Altaf Hussain being one of them.
Moazzam also admitted arranging Mohsin and Kashif’s travel to the UK for the purpose.
Khalid Shamim, another accused, revealed that it was his responsibility to pick Kashif and Mohsin from the airport and shift them to a secure location, sources added.
