LAHORE
Justice Shujaat Ali Khan of the Lahore High Court on Monday refused to hear petition seeking disqualification of Kh Ahmed Hassaan from contesting election of mayor of Lahore. Citing his personal reasons the judge referred the petition to the chief justice for its fixation before some other bench.
Waqas Aslam, a citizen, had filed this petition stating that Kh Ahmed Hassaan was not eligible to contest the election of mayor. Through his counsel Sheraz Zaka, the petitioner submitted that even he was not eligible to contest the election of union council chairman as he was government functionary at that time. He said to contest any elections, a government functionary should quit his office at least two years before the elections but Hassaan after being elected chairman resigned from the post. He said as he was not eligible to contest the election of chairman; therefore, he should be declared disqualified.
