Some politicians, businessmen don’t want Pakistan to progress: Munter

KARACHI: Former US ambassador Cameron Munter has said that some Pakistani politicians and businessmen are black sheep who don’t want to see Pakistan make progress and join the club of developed countries.
“Some politicians and businessmen in Pakistan don’t want development of the country, but I am optimistic about the country and see its future bright. There is no lack of talent in this country. The youths are barred from going ahead,” Munter said while addressing a seminar titled ‘One Belt, One Road’, held here at a local hotel on Saturday.
While talking about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, he said that the project would not only boost the importance of Pakistan internationally but also help benefit other countries in the region.
Munter said that Generals were interested in war while diplomats in diplomatic field. Fear exists in the world about the stability in Pakistan, he added. “When I was in Pakistan, I would deliberate on the security situation for hours,” he said.
He urged India and Pakistan to sort out issues instead of indulging in across-border imbroglio.
While talking about Pak-Afghan relations, he said that there were certain reasons tense ties between the two countries. “An enduring planning is needed to improve security matters concerning both the countries,” he urged. There is still room for better bilateral ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan and heads of both countries should talk to each other to end misunderstanding, he said.
