20 die, dozens hurt as bus plunges into gorge in AJK
PALANDRI: At least 20 people died and about two dozen others were injured when a bus carrying participants of a wedding party fell into a gorge here on Sunday.
Police said that a bus carrying about five dozen attendants of a wedding party from Palandri to Hajira, area of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), skidded off the road due to overspeeding while negotiating a sharp turn near the Janjaal Hill More and plunged into a deep ravine.
As a result 20 people died while about 25 others were injured. The dwellers of the area and rescue teams soon after getting the information of the mishap reached the scene and started a rescue operation.
The bodies and injured were pulled out from the gorge and shifted to different hospitals where according to hospital sources condition of several wounded people was critical and
it was feared that the death toll might mount further.
