PESHAWAR: Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force met the first ever PAF trekking expedition team which crossed the Baltoro glacier to reach the Base Camp of K-2 mountain.
The Air Chief lauded their efforts in highlighting the positive image of the country and also their steadfastness in wake of difficult circumstances. On the special instructions of Air Chief, PAF organized the expedition to Concordia/K2 Base Camp to promote the spirit of adventure and tourism in the country.
The Air Chief instructed to make this expedition a part of the Independence Day celebrations and paying a befitting tribute to the people of Pakistan on this auspicious occasion.
The PAF team comprising seventeen members including 13 males and 4 females reached Sakrdu on August 6 and set out on foot on August 8. It reached Concordia on after five days arduous journey covering an average of 21 kilometers a day.
The highlight of this expedition was successful hoisting of the National Flag at this confluence of the mightiest non-polar glaciers in the world and the throne room of four highest mountains in the world (K2, Broad Peak, G-I and G-II).
