Muhammad Hamza, student of the Usman Public School located at North Nazimabad, wants to become an engineer in future and believes that he clinched the top spot due to his tireless efforts and determination.

Replying to a question about the conditions and environment for students at government schools, the position holder said most of the public schools were in a state of shambles, owing to poor policies and ignorance of the provincial government.

He also blamed that the administration of the state-run schools also did not take interest to improve the condition of such schools where most of the children came from a humble background.

He further said the quality of education being provided in public schools was not satisfactory, while the whole system was about to collapse.

“These schools get grants in billions, teachers receive heavy salaries as compared to many private sector schools, but teachers are not honest with their jobs.”

Sikandar Ali Khokar, son of Irshad Ali Khokar, seat number 324582, bagged the second position with 796 marks and 93.64 percentage.

The student was enrolled in the St-Patrick’s Secondary School, situated at Ahmed Munir S J Shaheed Road.

To a query as to what should be done to improve the education quality in state-run schools, the position holder advised that the government should bound all ministers, advisors and other government employees to send their children to government schools.

“If the ministers would send their children to public schools, it would consequently bring positive changes in attitude of the school administration and more students would get enrolled in the state-run schools.”

Abdul Ahad, son of Muhammad Younus, seat number 304696, bagged the third position with 795 marks and 93.52 percentage.

He studied at the S M Public Academy, located at North Nazimabad, Block-J.

He mentioned that his father was a government employee and the position holder wanted to become like his father.

Abdul Ahad said he would also like to have a government job to serve the nation like his father. The position holder is also interested in pursuing his future studies in the field of engineering.

Cash prizes

BSEK Chairman Anwar Ahmed Zai, while announcing the result at the BSEK Conference Hall, mentioned that the board would distribute cash prize of Rs50,000, Rs30,000 and Rs20,000 respectively each among the three top position holders.

The BSEK also awarded the Abdul Sattar Edhi awards to these students.

Zai stated that the public sector examination boards were required to improve their standard in the present era of competition as they had to compete with the private sector examination bodies.

He said that in the coming month of September, meetings of the IBCC would be held in Islamabad where the performance of all the boards would be objectively reviewed in order to bring reforms in them.

He also said the matriculation system of education had no clash with O-Level examinations but it was the responsibility of the BSEK to safeguard educational interest of such students who could not afford the Cambridge system education. Zai further said that a workshop would be held in the last week of September for examiners, who assess the answer scripts in order to brief them about modern methods of marking.

Chief Guest

The BSEK invited former Pakistan cricket team captain Moin Khan as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, he asked the position holders should be proud of their country.

“I have been getting attractive proposals from other countries but I always prefer to play only for my country as it has given me everything.”

While congratulating the position holders, he pointed out that only those who worked hard with dedication got success in life.  “Those who believe in adopting shortcuts never succeed in life, their achievements, if any, are temporarily.”

Moin Khan stressed upon adopting a hardworking attitude and advised that the students should have faith in themselves and their work.  “I have learnt many lessons from cricket. After getting out on zeros, I used to push myself to make bigger scores and succeed. I wanted to make a difference and with my hard work and dedication, I managed to do it.”

In his message to the students, he said that whatever profession they choose in life, the new generation should progress with adopting perseverance, complete resolve and belief in their own qualities to become successful and famous in future.
