The fourth day of the annual Young Leaders Conference (YLC), 2016, themed ‘patrol-state power’ focused on the dire need for political reforms, in the country, on Friday.

The day began early with Uzair Ausaf’s session on ‘Role of the state in policy-making and how civil society can influence it’, besides it also
featured an informative session conducted by learned trainers of School of Leadership (SoL).

Each year, YLC opens its doors to 300 youngsters, between the ages of 18-24 from all over Pakistan.

The participants and sessions were also sponsored by prestigious enterprises such as Thal Engineering Limited, U-Report, UNICEF, Friedrich-Naumann-Stuftung, and PPAF, who were working towards bringing diversity to the conference.

The next activity titled ‘Democracy in action’ simulated the electoral process from initiation, to campaigning, voting, assembly formation and summit bill presentations were also conducted.

The purpose of the activity was to help introduce participants with how governments and politics worked.

In a series of parallel workshops on youth-policy and youth-representation, leading personalities from politics and journalism, including Raza Haroon, Mohsin Naqvi, and Jibran Nasir shared their views and insights regarding importance of discourse on important subjects such as state laws, religion and politics, judicial system and the politics of representation.

Later, Lt Gen(retd) Asad Durrani spoke over resolving conflicts and controversial issues arising between the media, the government and the citizenry, regarding state-power and the power of the establishment, during a session titled ‘The war of narratives’.

In another segment titled ‘Mera Passion Pakistan’ General (retd) Durrani, Shahzad Nawaz and Rizwan Jaffer engaged the participants in a conversation over the duties and rights of an ordinary citizen.
