ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to maintain close liaison with the aprliamentary group leaders of parliament who stood by the government during the agitation of the PTI last year and later.
Well-placed sources in the PM House told The News here on Tuesday that the meeting of the parliamentary group leaders has been called in the PM Parliament House Chamber-222 about mid-day today (Wednesday).
Some federal misters will also be in attendance as the overall political situation will be discussed by the participants. It would be the first such get-together after the findings of the Judicial Commission and the report of the commission would also come for informal discussion, the sources said.
The parliamentary group leaders will also discuss how to improve the working of parliament and formulation of electoral reforms for which the special committee under Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar has covered a lot of area. The decision to hold the huddle was taken after consultations between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Dar, Chaudhary Nisar, Senator Pervez Rashid, and Khawaja Saad Rafiq.
The prime minister will offer words of thanks to the parliamentary leaders for their role in the crisis created by the agitation and their determination for the cause of democracy and parliament. The sources said that Nawaz and some federal ministers will brief the meeting about a few aspects related to the foreign affairs and the domestic scene including major development projects.
The operations being carried out to eliminate terrorism from the face of the country would also come up for discussion briefly. The MQM had been part of such meetings in past but it couldn’t be ascertained till late evening whether it would be invited for today’s meeting or
not. The PTI, PML-Q and other groups and members who had extended their support to the agitations haven’t been invited for the meeting.
The sources have hinted that Nawaz would ascertain the views of the leaders about the question of de-seating of the PTI members. Nawaz reportedly is opposed to de-seating the PTI members. The meeting would be attended by the group leaders of the PPP, Jamat-e-Islami, Jamiat Ulmai Islam, PML-F, PkMAP, NPP, ANP, QWP, PML-Z, and NP.
Leader of the opposition in National Assembly Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah, leader of the opposition in Senate Barrister Aitazaz Ahsan Chaduhary, Maulana Fazalur Rehman, Sahibzada Tariqullah, Pir Sadaruddin Shah, Rais Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi, Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo and leaders belonging to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Raja Muhammad Zafarul Haq, Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Senator Pervez Rashid, Senator Mushahidullah Khan, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, Irfan Siddiquee, Dr. Syed Asif Saeed Kirmani, Senator Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Ms. Anushar Rehman Ahmad Khan, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Sheikh Aftab Ahmad, Aushtar Ausaf Ali and Barrister Zafarullah Khan are being invited for the meeting, the sources added.
