Calgary hosted a remarkable celebration of Sindhi Culture Day, bringing together an unprecedented number of community members from Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Red Deer.

This year’s event marked the largest Sindhi cultural gathering in Alberta’s history, highlighting the community’s unity, heritage, and growing footprint across the province, said a statement. In a historic milestone, the programme welcomed dignitaries from all three levels of government, including MPs Jasraj Hallan, Dalwinder Gill, Amanpreet Gill; MLAs Irfan Sabir, Gurrinder Brar, Parmeet Singh; and Councillor Raj Dhaliwal.

The community was further honoured by the presence of Qazi Shahid Pervez, former additional chief secretary, Government of Sindh, Pakistan, who attended as the guest of honour. All dignitaries were presented with the traditional Sindhi Ajrak, symbolizing cultural respect and appreciation.

Special recognition was awarded to Mrs. Shazia Max Memon for her longstanding service to the Sindhi community. Senior leaders Mashhood Qazi, Max Memon, Siraj Abbasi, and Dr. Anwer Adil were also acknowledged for their contributions and leadership.

Attendees enjoyed a vibrant musical performance by famous sufi singer Anina Fida from Sindh, whose energetic, uninterrupted performance kept the hall engaged and dancing throughout the evening.

The event was organized by Imran Shaikh, Faraz Memon, and Dr. Adnan Adil Mithwani, supported by a dedicated team of youth volunteers whose enthusiasm played a key role in the event’s success. This year’s event was made possible with the generous support of Hayat Homes, 7Seas Construction, and Butt Karahi.

Sindhi Culture Day 2025 stands as a proud reminder of the vibrant cultural identity of the Sindhi diaspora in Alberta and the community’s continued commitment to preserving and celebrating its heritage.
