PESHAWAR: After the reported assassination of the militant group Lashkar-i-Islam head Mangal Bagh in a US drone strike in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province two days ago, the Afghan defence ministry announced on Tuesday that its forces had killed one of its commanders Shah Khalid.

According to the Afghan Islamic Press, Shah Khalid was killed in an operation carried out by the Afghan National Army. However, the Afghan defence ministry didn’t mention the place where Shah Khalid was killed.

Mangal Bagh and most of the fighters of the Lashkar-i-Islam were based in the Nangarhar province of eastern Afghanistan.
