Five traders, importers escape after

bail rejection in fraud case

FAISALABAD: Five local traders and importers escaped from the customs court after a judge rejected their bail in a fraud case.

The five accused, include Mian Muhammad Saeed, Saeed Alvi and Mujahid Ali. They had imported two containers of old machinery and got it cleared with the alleged connivance of Customs Deputy Superintendent Anwar Pervaiz and inspectors Irfan Idrees, Khalid and Babar without paying Rs 2.1 million custom duty at the Faisalabad Dry Port, inflicting loss to the national exchequer.

Customs Deputy Collector Umer Qasmi got a case registered against the accused after the allegation proved in an inquiry conducted by Customs Inspector Masood Saeed.

GIRL KILLED ON RESISTANCE: Three dacoits killed a newly-married girl and injured her husband on resistance here on Sunday night.

Uzma Bibi of Khurrianwala and her husband Javed were walking outside their house when three motorcyclists came there and snatched cash, gold ornaments and a mobile phone from them. In the meantime, the couple offered resistance. To it, the dacoits gunned down Uzma and injured her husband.

BIKER DIES: A boy was killed in a road accident near Chak 471/GB. Kashif Zulfiqar of Chak 450/GB, Samundri, was on his way when his motorcycle struck against an electricity pole due to a pit in a road. As a result, he was injured seriously. He died on way to the Samundri Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

WOMAN BURNT TO DEATH: A woman was burnt to death at Ghulam Muhammadabad on Sunday night.

Salma Bibi was cooking food in her house when her clothes caught fire. As a result, she received serious burns. She died on way to the Allied Hospital.
