Seminar, walk to raise awareness about dengue held

On the directions of the Punjab Chief Minister, Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif, the city district government, Rawalpindi observed a Dengue Elimination Day on Saturday in Rawalpindi district.

In connection with the observance of anti-dengue day, the city district government, RDA, Wasa, Tehsil Municipal Administration, Rawal Town jointly organised a seminar in the conference hall of RDA which was chaired by President of Metropolitan and former MPA, Sardar Nasim which was well attended by former MNA, Shakil Awan, MPA, Raja Hanif Advocate, MPA Ziaullah Shah, Managing Director, Wasa, Raja Shaukat Mahmood, TMA, Administrator and all the high officials of their related local government departments.

The speakers in their speeches highlighted the importance of cooperation of citizens with the city governments, local government departments in eradication of dengue from Rawalpindi and its adjoining areas.

Sardar Naseem was given a detailed briefing by the TMA officials about the effective and practical measures being adopted to avert the spread of dengue in Rawalpindi. He was told that the specially deputed staff visits every union councils and tehsil areas door-to-door and distributes pamphlets among the people in order to create awareness about the effects and danger of dengue disease. They are advised to keep the water filled utensils covered, over head and ground water tanks covered. The TMA team also on daily basis visit parks, graveyards, old tyre shops, CNG stations in order to detect any presence of dengue larvae.

The TMA administrator informed Sardar Nasim that spray work is also carried out in open plots, residences, parks and greenery areas. Moreover, the standing water on roads and streets are being cleaned every day.  Sardar Nasim told that till now the situation of dengue disease which was severe in couple of years is normal at present. As practical measures are being adopted, the situation of dengue disease would not aggravate this year. It is the utmost priority of the Punjab government to provide relief to the people from eruption and spread of dengue this year for which measures have already being enforced. Building staff of RDA and other departments have been directed to inspect the under construction buildings in order to detect larvae.

Wasa Managing Director, Raja Shaukat Mahmood, also gave a briefing to Sardar Nasim about measures taken to prevent the eruption of dengue disease. Our staff remains vigilant and works round the clock, he told the PML-N leader.

Later on, Sardar Nasim, led a Dengue Elimination Walk from RDA office to College Road which was largely attended by staff of the local government departments, political activists and social workers while carrying banners and placards in their hands.
