Gilani meets, Faisal Edhi, condoles Edhi’s demise
KARACHI: Former prime minister and PPP leader Yusuf Raza Gilani on Thursday visited the Edhi Centre at Mithadar and met Faisal Edhi to condole with him the demise of his father founder of the Edhi Foundation, Abdul Sattar Edhi.
Talking to media persons on the occasion, the former prime minister said the late Abdul Sattar Edhi was a precious asset for the entire world. Gilani said he, being the former PM, had done correspondence for recommending the name of late Edhi for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Talking to the media later, Gilani said he had been facing the courts since the time he gained senses. He said during the time the PPP was in power in the previous term, the party had strengthened the institutions in accordance with the 1973 Constitution. He said there could be no harm if institutions continued to do their functions within the limits prescribed by the Constitution.
He said in the past false cases had been instituted against him and on basis of such cases punishment had been handed down to him. But later he was honourably acquitted and but cases were again filed against him, which was not a justified act.
Responding to a question regarding the issue of special policing powers of Sindh Rangers, the former PM said the issue in question was related to provincial government and he better not comment on it.
