Sindh Service Tribunal gets new chairperson

Justice (Retd) Mrs Qaiser Iqbal was on Thursday notified as the new chairperson of the Sindh Service Tribunal, with an official communiqué issued by the provincial law department declaring that her tenure would run for three years from the day she assumes charge.
As per the law department’s statement, the appointment made in pursuance of Section 2 of the Sindh Services Tribunal (Second Amendment) Act, 2015, was confirmed after consultation with the Sindh High Court chief justice and approval from the province’s chief minister.
The terms and conditions of her appointment, it added, would be issued separately.
Born in Karachi on December 31, 1949, Justice (Retd) Iqbal was enrolled as an advocate of the Karachi Bar Association in 1972, and the Sindh and Balochistan high courts in 1974. Justice (Retd) Iqbal joined the Sindh Subordinate Judiciary as a civil judge through the Public Service Commission in 1976, and was promoted as senior civil judge in 1982 and as District and Sessions Judge in 1995.
She has also worked as a Special Judge, Banking Court, Hyderabad, and Administrative Judge, Banking Courts, Karachi from 1996 to 1999; chairman of the Insurance Appellate Tribunal, Karachi from 1997 to 1999; District and Sessions Judge (East) from 1999 to 2000; District and Sessions Judge, Karachi (West) from 2000 to 2003; and Administrative Judge, Accountability Courts, Sindh, Karachi till October 2005. On October 25, 2005, she was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Sindh High Court and was confirmed in October 2006.
Member appointed
Another appointment in the Sindh Services Tribunal was notified with Shoukat Ali Memon, serving as a District and Sessions judge, has been posted as a member of the Sindh Service Tribunal for a period of three years. The terms and conditions of appointment would be issued separately.
More notices
With the CM’s approval Irfan Ahmed Meo, District and Sessions Judge, presently posted as presiding officer at the Labour Court No VII, Sukkur, has been repatriated to the Sindh High Court with immediate effect.
Similarly, the tenure of Gulshan Ara Chandio as special judge, Anti-Corruption (Provincial), Karachi has been extended for another term of three years.
Resignations
The chief minister has accepted the resignation tendered by Nadir Khan Burdi, Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate (BS-18), Malir, with effect from July 11, 2016.
Similarly, the resignation tendered by Ali Akbar Poonawala, Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate (BS-18), Karachi (Central), has also been accepted by the chief minister, with effect from July 11, 2016.
