No extrajudicial, honour killings in Islam: Ulema
ISLAMABAD: Religious leaders from various schools of thought on Wednesday said Islam did not allow extrajudicial murder and killings on account of religion, honour and prejudice.
Addressing a convention organised by the Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC), they said the religious leadership in Pakistan should wage united efforts to eliminate the extremist thinking and radical mindset which was problematic for the entire world and Pakistan.
The speakers said extremist organisations like Daesh were being formed and strengthened to defame the Muslims and Islam across the world, adding that religious sections of society in Turkey had played a frontline role in defeating the revolt against the democratic government.
PUC Chairman Tahir Ashrafi, addressing the convention, urged religious scholars to come forward to educate the youth against extremist ideologies.
He said India was among those major countries providing arms and ammunition to Daesh, adding that Daesh warlords were attacking all those countries which were anti-Bashar al Assad and supporting the Syrian people. He said the Muslim Ummah should get united against all those aiming at playing havoc with peace and security of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, while appreciating unanimous stance of the Islamic world on Turkish issue.
Ashrafi said Indian forces could not sustain oppression against the Kashmiri people and the day of freedom from India was not far off.Maulana Abdul Hameed Sabri said Takfeeri and Kharji groups were responsible for attacking Madina, as he described these elements as traitors of Muslims and Islam.Maulana Nauman Hashir said the PUC was making efforts for the rights of non-Muslims in Pakistan, adding that the Constitution had categorically defined rights for non-Muslims and every section of society should function as per their constitutional parameters.
Maulana Tahir Aqeel Awan said the people of Pakistan would not hesitate from making any sort of sacrifice for the defence and security of Harmain al Sharifain and Turkey. He warned the US, India and other foreign forces to shun conspiracies against Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan.
Maulana Ahmed said Quran termed killing of an individual as killing of the entire humankind and elements playing havoc with blood of innocent people could neither be Muslims nor representatives of Muslims.
Later talking to media, Ashrafi regretted the honour killing of social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch and demanded merit-based investigation. The convention also approved a resolution, condemning killing of Mufti Habib-ur-Rehman and demanded the Sindh government to arrest the killers.
