MULTAN: Lawyers have condemned killing of Kashmiri leader Burhan Wani and scores of other innocent Kashmiris in the Indian Held Kashmir (IHK).
Addressing a meeting presided over by DBA president Azimul Haq Pirzada at the DBA Hall on Wednesday, lawyers said that India could not suppress the freedom movement through its army and win the hearts of the people of Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, South Punjab People’s Lawyers Forum former president Habibullah Shakir maintained that resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the wishes of the people of the Valley could bring peace in the region. He said the Pakistan People’s Party stood by the people of Indian Held Kashmir in their just struggle. He recalled that the PPP under the leadership of Benazir Bhutto succeeded in getting observer status for the APHC in the OIC. He said the people of Kashmir could not be denied their right to self-determination through force and brutal acts. He said the PPP was committed to finding a just, honourable and peaceful solution to the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of its people. He stressed the need for involving the Kashmiris in the dialogue process.
Condemning the killing of Kashmiri freedom fighters in the Indian Held Kashmir, Pakistan Bar Council former vice chairman Mirza Aziz Akbar Baig said such acts were a violation of the fundamental human rights and could not deter the people of Kashmir from their demand for the right to self-determination. He appealed to the international community to respect sentiments of the Kashmiris and play its role in implementing the UN resolution.
Speaking on the occasion, Multan DBA president Azimul Haq Pirzada criticised the UN Security Council for keeping mum over the killings in the Indian Held Kashmir. He paid rich tributes to the Kashmiris for sacrificing their lives for the freedom. He was of the view that Jihad was the only solution to the Kashmir dispute as it could not be resolved through dialogues.
