LAHORE: Imran Khan’s latest claim about ‘70 Punctures’ instead of the earlier 35 is somersault as he has taken 360 degree turn, said Najam Sethi, adding that Imran did not deserve much importance and was digging his own grave.
Expressing his views on Sunday in Geo News programme ‘Aapas ki Baat’, he said Rangers must have the proof of the allegations levelled against the MQM organisational committee. The charges had started appearing against the MQM leadership and not the Sindh governor, he said, adding that the party leadership in present in the country could be arrested.
According to Sethi, besides the MQM, the PPP is also becoming a target of ongoing operation. The Rangers would not only act against the MQM committees but also the second tier leadership of PPP.
Handing over the accused in Imran Farooq murder case to the UK is also under consideration. The British authorities wanted to make their arguments strong before the hearing of money laundering case on July 12. The expediency in Islamabad shows that the criminals and terrorists as well as their facilitators would not remain scot-free.
Both the FIA and Rangers are now empowered through the Protection of Pakistan Ordinance. The FIA and NAB would take against in the matters where the Rangers cannot. In the given scenario, the PPP is also keeping distance from the MQM, making Altaf Hussain angry, as he and his party are now losing power. Previously, Asif Ali Zardari used to call back Altaf after his phone, but the case is totally different now.
Sethi said Pakistan wanted to seal the border with Afghanistan but Kabul was not allowing that. The recent border skirmish was an expression of the tension the reason of which had been something other, he added.
According to Sethi, it had been proven that Afghan forces started firing and the opponents of President Ashraf Ghani wanted to weaken him by using the episode. The situation is worsening along the Pak-Afghan border. On one hand, the Afghan Taliban are not ready to show flexibility in their stance during talks and on the other, they have resorted to carrying out attacks - meaning that talk, talk, fight is now changing into fight only.
Pakistan enjoys influence on Afghan Taliban but would have use force to utilise the sway. However, the national security establishment is not ready to use force but the time has come that Pakistan would have to pressurise the Afghan Taliban.
Iran and several other countries are providing assistance to them. It is not easy for Pakistan to act against the Haqqani network. The war against the Afghan Taliban could not be won without the support of the entire world.
