QUETTA: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Quetta, Aitzaz Ahmed Goraya, announced on Tuesday the arrest of an Afghan national involved in facilitating the abduction and subsequent killing of 11-year-old Musawar Khan Kakar, while two others connected to the abduction were killed during operation, and efforts were ongoing to apprehend their remaining accomplices.

Addressing a press conference at the Central Police Office here, DIG Goraya—accompanied by Balochistan government Spokesperson Shahid Rind—confirmed that law enforcement agencies were intensifying efforts to track down the remaining suspects. Raaz Muhammad, the father of the slain Musawar Khan Kakar, was also present at the briefing.

DIG Goraya said among the killed suspects, one was Nauman Rind allegedly involved in the kidnapping, while another suspect Rehan Tayyab Shah from Bajaur remains at large and was actively being pursued. A key suspect Hisham had been arrested and was currently on remand, he said, adding the vehicle used in the abduction had also been recovered.

According to the DIG, Hisham had brought the vehicle from Afghanistan, procured weapons from Gulistan, and conducted surveillance of Musawar Kakar’s residence and shop prior to the abduction. “These findings have been corroborated through CCTV footage.

Three more suspects involved in supplying weapons, as well as a property owner who provided shelter, have also been taken into custody,” he added. “Musawar Kakar’s killing is a tragic loss. Despite our best efforts to ensure his safe recovery, we were unable to prevent his death,” DIG Goraya said, emphasising that all individuals involved in the crime will be brought to justice.

In response to a question regarding the broader law and order situation, the DIG noted that the incidents in Quetta stem from a mix of personal enmity, terrorism, accidents, and other criminal motives. He assured that the police were taking all necessary steps to improve security in the provincial capital.

Government spokesperson Shahid Rind added that the Balochistan chief minister had directed strict action against those involved in road blockades, violence, and killings. He stated that when security forces responded swiftly, armed elements were forced to flee areas such as Mastung and other districts.

Rind cited timely responses from police and security forces in Mastung and Kalat that helped prevent greater harm.

He mentioned that surveillance had been increased in areas such as Rarkan and Rara Sham following recent incidents and added that monitoring had also been intensified at the site of the latest incident in Sara-Dakai.

Rind said Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti recently chaired a high-level meeting to assess the security situation, during which important decisions were made.

Regarding the abduction of seven individuals from Shaaban, Rind said the government will only confirm fatalities based on concrete evidence. “Although a banned outfit has claimed responsibility for the kidnappings, DNA testing—similar to what was done in Musawar’s case—is necessary for confirmation,” he added. He further said that steps were being taken to ensure the safe recovery of the assistant commissioner of Tump.
