Water shortage
Despite being the economic hub of Pakistan, Karachi continues to face severe daily water shortages, leaving citizens frustrated and helpless. Many areas go without water for days and their residents are forced to rely on expensive water tankers, run by an unregulated and influential ‘tanker mafia’. This not only places a financial burden on already struggling families, but also raises serious concerns about inequality and governance.
It is disheartening that in 2025, a megacity like Karachi is still deprived of such a basic human necessity. Authorities must take urgent and concrete steps to upgrade the city’s water supply infrastructure, regulate tanker operations and ensure equitable distribution of water. Water is a fundamental right, not a privilege.
