Suspended MPAs: Govt, opposition reach consensus on various issues
LAHORE: A major breakthrough has emerged in the matter of suspension of 26 opposition members in the Punjab Assembly, as both the opposition and the government have reached a consensus on various issues.
It was decided during a meeting held on Sunday that another round of talks will be held within the next three to four days.
The second session regarding the suspension of 26 opposition members was held in the Punjab Assembly under the chairmanship of Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan.
After the two-and-a-half-hour-long session, Opposition Leader Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar told the media that the discussion between the government and opposition members was quite positive. He said the points raised during the meeting would be presented to their parliamentary party, and another session would be held in the next three to four days.
Talking to the media, Punjab Finance Minister and government representative Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman stated that the negotiations between the government and opposition took place in a cordial environment.
“We want to ensure that all members whether from the government or opposition are respected in this people’s house. This assembly should truly reflect the will of the people,” he said.
Both the government and opposition members pledged to restore the traditional decorum of the Punjab Assembly. They vowed to jointly put an end to the culture of abusive language and physical altercations within the house.
