Pay for plastic

This letter refers to the news report ‘Punjab to pay citizens for returning plastic bottles’ (June 30, 2025). This is another very good and timely step undertaken by the Punjab government. Plastic is a hazard and recycling is one great option many developed countries utilise. Punjab’s leadership in launching such a forward-looking recycling initiative deserves recognition.
However, for Pakistan to truly tackle its environmental challenges, this momentum must spread beyond provincial borders. If each province embraces its role in protecting the environment, Pakistan can move toward a cleaner, greener and more responsible future.
