The Sindh government’s decision to offer tax exemptions and full institutional support to eco-friendly industries is a visionary policy move that deserves the strongest possible endorsement. By prioritising electric vehicles, green energy and sustainable infrastructure, the provincial government is leading Pakistan’s clean energy transition. The benefits are compelling. EVs are significantly cheaper to operate (just Rs4 per kilometre) making them ideal for a country battling inflation and rising fuel costs. By mandating EV charging infrastructure in all new buildings, setting up stations on highways, and using government land for energy infrastructure, Sindh is building the ecosystem necessary to make this shift accessible to all.
With Rs25 billion set aside for solarisation in the latest budget, the promise of affordable and even free electricity is being translated into concrete policy. In a time when climate change and energy insecurity threaten our future, Sindh’s leadership is proving that sustainable development is both possible and essential.
