PPP slams PTI for disrupting Bilawal’s speech in NA
Shazia says some in opposition were clearly annoyed simply because Bilawal was forcefully raising Pakistan’s cause on global platforms
ISLAMABAD: Central spokesperson for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Member of the National Assembly, Shazia Marri, strongly criticised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for disrupting party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s address in Parliament, alleging that their discomfort stemmed from his bold stance on Indian aggression and his solidarity with Iran.
Speaking at a press conference outside Parliament House on Monday, flanked by PPP leaders Abdul Qadir Patel and Agha Rafiullah, Marri said, “The PTI looked visibly agitated during Bilawal’s speech. Was it his exposure of Modi’s propaganda or his call for solidarity with Iran that made them squirm?”
She said some in the opposition were clearly annoyed simply because Bilawal was forcefully raising Pakistan’s cause on global platforms.
Marri launched a scathing attack on Opposition Leader Omar Ayub, questioning his political integrity and past affiliations. “We all know how many parties he has switched. Today, he champions a party he once opposed — he lacks the stature to lead the opposition,” she stated.
Accusing the PTI of aligning with hostile narratives, she remarked, “PTI’s social media and Indian social media often sound like they are reading from the same script.”
Marri praised Bilawal’s speech as a “courageous and historic articulation of Pakistan’s position on the world stage.” She said the PPP chairman had returned from global engagements with diplomatic victories, having held nearly 70 high-level meetings where he advocated for peace, Kashmir, and anti-terrorism efforts.
Highlighting the PPP’s ethos, she reiterated President Asif Ali Zardari’s commitment to political dialogue. “PPP stands for reconciliation, not confrontation. Our efforts are sincere and persistent,” she said.
In a sharp rebuke, Marri accused the PTI founder of being the “product of foreign funding” and claimed his children were raised in Zionist households. “He is the face of a foreign conspiracy,” she alleged.
Marri credited Bilawal’s diplomacy for refocusing the international spotlight on Kashmir and forcing India to soften its hardline stance. “From the UN to global media, Pakistan is being heard again because of Bilawal’s leadership. The world salutes his clarity and courage,” she declared.
The PPP leaders condemned the PTI’s “disgraceful” conduct in Parliament, accusing them of prioritising their imprisoned party chief over national issues. “They are silent on Kashmir, terrorism, and water security. All they care about is their leader’s release,” said Marri.
Abdul Qadir Patel expressed concern that the PTI’s behaviour may render PPP’s reconciliation efforts fruitless. “Criticism is part of democracy, but what we saw today crosses all bounds,” he remarked.
Marri reiterated Bilawal’s message that Pakistan seeks peace, not war, with India — a message echoed even by the US leadership. “Terrorists seek war; we do not. Peace builders deserve our full support,” she said, citing past international appreciation for Pakistan’s peace efforts.
Calling India’s unwillingness to engage a strategic failure, she urged the opposition to reflect on its role and support national interests at a time when Pakistan’s global narrative is gaining ground.
