World Punjabi Conference starts

LAHORE: Under the auspices of World Punjabi Congress (WPC) the 35th International Conference on Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiyat started in Lahore on Saturday.

Esteemed writers, poets, scholars, professors and intellectuals attended the first day of the two-day conference. In the opening address, WPC chairman Fakhar Zaman said it was essential for people to get united during these times of unrest and conflicts for peace under the common tradition of Punjab, Punjabi & Punjabiyat. He said the World Punjabi Congress has organized 34 International Conferences across the globe. He stressed the need of promoting Punjabi culture, language and traditions for the progress and unity of the people. Intellectuals Dr Sughra Sadaf, Dr Nizam Uddin, Kalyan Singh Kalyan, Dr Abdul Razzaq Shahid, Dr Amjad Bhatti, Khalid Ijaz Mufty, Muddasir Iqbal Butt, Mian Habib, Dr Abad Nabeel Shad, Dr Saima Batool, Prof Satwant Kaur, Sofia Bedar, Baba Najmi and others addressed the participants while Imran Shaukat recited Punjabi poems.
