PFA discards 3,000 litres of adulterated milk
LAHORE:The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) dairy safety teams conducted an early morning crackdown across multiple entry points of Lahore and discarded 3,000 liters of adulterated milk after conducting on the spot quality checks.
PFA Director General M Asim Javaid told media on Saturday that a total of 206 milk-carrying vehicles were inspected. Out of which 12 were fined with penalties exceeding Rs160,000. Approximately 218,000 liters of milk was examined and the substandard milk was discarded after it was found to be adulterated with water and had low fat content.
The DG PFA said that this white liquid, falsely appearing as milk, was meant to be supplied to Lahore and surrounding areas. He added that Checking points were at Gajjumata, Saggian, Babu Sabu, Shahdara, Multan Road and Adda Plot. DG said that vehicles carrying milk are only allowed to proceed after passing the mandatory quality testing. He added that deceiving consumers in the name of milk as a serious offense and stated that such malpractice would not be tolerated at any cost. Daily checkpoints have been established to intercept and inspect milk vehicles at key entry points of the city. The DG requested the public to report food-related violations on PFA’s 1223 helpline and support the authority in ensuring the supply of safe and pure milk in Punjab.
