The UN was created with the idea that it would preserve global peace and security. However, over the last few years, it has failed to do so. The Iran-Israel issue that has the possibility of going nuclear and is no longer just a regional issue. And yet, the UN Security Council has not come up with a solution because of divergent positions among its permanent members. If powerful countries like the US keep putting their own narrow interests before international rules, norms and security, the credibility of international institutions will continue to erode.
