No cop from KP posted against top slot anywhere in country

PESHAWAR: Not a single officer from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is currently posted as inspector general of police anywhere in the country.

Though there are a number of officers who served as IGP for sometime, they are currently either officers on special duty (OSDs) or posted as additional IGs.

“There are a number of officers of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) in grade 21 but none of them could get the top slot in any province or other force,” said an official.

He added there were around 16 slots of IGPs, including provincial police officers and heads of Federal Investigation Agency, Intelligence Bureau, National Highways and Motorway Police, Railways Police, Frontier Constabulary and other forces. None of the incumbent bosses belong to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Salahuddin Mahsud, who was the senior most officer from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, retired a few months back. He twice remained IGP in KP and served as IGP Azad Jammu and Kashmir as well as Commandant Frontier Constabulary.

Akhtar Hayat Khan, a PSP officer of the 22nd CTP, who served as IGP KP for almost two years is currently OSD. Muhammad Saeed Wazir from 23rd CTP, who remained IGP in Gilgit-Baltistan, is currently posted as additional IGP in Balochistan. Two of his batchmates are currently Provincial Police Officers.

Sohail Habib Tajik, who remained IGP in AJK twice and is from 24th CTP, is currently joint secretary in the Interior Ministry. His batchmates are also heading forces.

Another officer from KP, Qazi Jamil, is currently posted in the Intelligence Bureau. He remained IGP Islamabad a few years back.

Also, Dar Ali Khattak remained IGP GB a year ago and is currently serving in NHMP.

There are a number of other PSP officers from KP in grade 21, who are eligible for the top slot, but are still serving as number two or OSDs. These officers included Kashif Alam, Mohammad Ali Babakhel, Mazhar Kakakhel, Muhammad Tahir, Abbas Ahsan and Muhammad Jafar.

Apart from KP, there are many PSPs from other provinces who are in grade 21 but are yet to get the top slot.
