PESHAWAR: A public library has been inaugurated at a government higher secondary school in Makeen, marking the first such facility in Upper South Waziristan.

The initiative, aimed at promoting reading habits and improving access to academic resources, was formally launched during a ceremony attended by officials, educators, and community members. Member Provincial Assembly Asif Khan Mahsud officiated the inauguration.

Participants welcomed the move as a much-needed step in a region long deprived of educational infrastructure. The speakers at the event described the library as a constructive effort to encourage intellectual engagement among students and to foster a learning oriented environment. Officials noted that similar libraries were planned in other areas of the district, including Sararogha, Chagmalai and Ladha, as part of broader efforts to expand equitable access to educational facilities.

Local elders and social figures appreciated the initiative, calling it a positive development that would help steer the younger generation towards knowledge and critical thinking. They expressed the hope that additional educational facilities would be introduced in the coming months.
