IHC hears appeal of workers in May 9 case
Islamabad:The Divisional Bench of the Islamabad High Court heard the appeal of two PTI workers convicted by the Anti-Terrorism Court in the May 9 incident, says a press release.
Senior Advocate Supreme Court Babar Awan gave detailed arguments on behalf of the petitioners. He told the court that Section 6 of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 clearly states that political protests and rallies cannot be brought under the category of terrorism. He was of the view that the case in question was purely a political protest, which is a misinterpretation of the law to conduct under the provisions of terrorism.
After hearing the arguments, the court adjourned further hearing of the case till June 19, 2025. The application for suspension of sentences under Section 426 will be discussed in detail in the next hearing. The petitioners’ legal team includes Senior Advocate Supreme Court Dr. Babar Awan, Barrister Abdullah Babar Awan, Sardar Muhammad Shushid Khan Advocate, Amna Ali Advocate, Zahid Bashir Dar Advocate and Murtaza Hussain.
