IGP wants action to end kidnappings for ransom, highway robberies
Sindh police Chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Friday chaired a meeting at the Central Police Office in Karachi, where he took a review of the police performance in maintaining law and order and preventing crime in the province.
Officials said the meeting especially discussed efforts to solve kidnapping for ransom cases, prevent highway robberies, and arrest absconding and wanted suspects, besides future strategies and action plans.
Range and divisional DIGs briefed the meeting about kidnapping for ransom cases in their respective districts, prevention of highway robberies, arrest of absconding and wanted suspects.
IGP Memon praised the DIGs of West, Sukkur and Larkana for their satisfactory performance in dealing with kidnapping for ransom cases and said, “It is my wish and determination that the complaints of kidnapping for ransom should be completely eradicated from the province.”
Addressing the police officers present in the meeting, he said they have worked hard to protect hundreds of citizens from kidnapping for ransom and honey traps. He said they have worked hard to control crimes like honey traps, which have become an industry.
The Sindh police chief further said habitual, absconding and wanted suspects do not hesitate to commit serious crimes like murder whenever they get the opportunity. He said the Sindh Police Highway Patrol has been established to ensure safe travel on all main highways and crossings of the province. He said whenever the police, with their hard work and dedication, address the root cause of this crime, this crime resurfaces.
IGP Memon said complaints of robbery have come to notice in traffic jams caused by protests and sit-ins, for which the relevant districts are always ready and alert. In addition, the data of the accused and documents of the accused should be registered in PSRMS, while steps should be taken to parade the arrested accused and get their identity cards blocked by courts.
He gave instructions to ensure the installation of CCTV cameras at police stations and the deployment of polite staff, while all DIGs should also personally monitor unnecessary appointments and deployments of police station staff.
The meeting was attended by the DIGs of Admin Karachi, T&T, crime and investigations, establishment, finance, range and divisional DIGs and district SSPs, as well as officers of the investigation department.
