Fund embezzlement charges: Jhagra files damages suit against Marwat
PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Taimur Saleem Jhagra has filed a defamation suit of Rs1 billion against his own party Member National Assembly Sher Afzal Marwat.
The lawsuit, filed through Advocate Ali Gohar Durrani, stated that Sher Afzal Marwat leveled baseless allegations against Jhagra during a talk show on a private television channel. He accused Jhagra, who had served as a provincial minister in the past, of embezzling Rs36 billion from the pension fund and also alleged that he acquired a five-kanal house in Hayatabad.
The suit claimed that these accusations were false, baseless, and fabricated, which had damaged Jhagra’s reputation and violated his dignity. It added that Jhagra belonged to a respectable political family and had been active in politics for a considerable time.
According to the claim, a legal notice had already been sent to Marwat, but no response was received. Therefore, the suit demanded that Marwat tender an unconditional written apology for his accusations and pay Rs1 billion in damages for defamation and character assassination.
