FIFA invites Pakistan to join Global ‘Football for Schools’ Programme
LAHORE: In a move aimed at promoting football among schoolchildren, FIFA has formally invited the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) to join its Football for Schools (F4S) Programme, a global initiative designed to integrate football into educational systems worldwide.
The invitation, extended to PFF President Syed Mohsen Gilani, comes as FIFA approaches the final phase of the current F4S cycle, with December 31, 2025, set as the deadline for member associations to confirm participation.
If Pakistan joins, FIFA will provide 164,940 footballs, proportional to the number of children aged 4 to 14 enrolled in schools across the country. Additionally, the PFF will receive USD 50,000 in funding to support programme implementation.
Participants will have access to the F4S digital application, equipped with instructional materials for football education. FIFA will also organize capacity-building courses for selected physical education teachers, conducted either online or in person.
Elkhan Mammadov, FIFA’s Chief Member Association Officer, has urged the PFF to confirm their decision before the year-end deadline, allowing FIFA to allocate resources effectively. The Football for Schools Programme aligns with FIFA’s broader mission to use football as a tool for social development, fostering opportunities for young players across various regions.
If Pakistan opts in, the initiative could mark a significant milestone in expanding grassroots football and strengthening sports education nationwide.
