Bohras celebrate Eid, express satisfaction with clean-up efforts
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, accompanied by Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) Managing Director Tariq Ali Nizamani, visited the city’s areas inhabited by Bohras, who celebrated Eidul Azha on Friday.
Wahab extended his Eid greetings to the community, and provided them with an update on the sanitation arrangements for the religious festival. He told the community members that providing ease and convenience to the city’s residents is a top priority.
He said offal collection points have been set up zone-wise across all seven districts of the city, with both the SSWMB staff and scouts deployed at these points to guide residents. All the necessary arrangements have been made at landfill sites for the safe burial of animal waste in trenches, he added.
The mayor and his delegation visited various neighbourhoods, including Shabbirabad, Hyderi and Saddar. Bohra community members expressed satisfaction with the clean-up efforts of the SSWMB.
They said that since the SSWMB took charge, waste collection and cleanliness operations have been carried out in an organised and timely manner. They also thanked the mayor for the well-managed operations under his leadership.
Lime was sprinkled in areas after offal removal, and the mayor ordered that fumigation be carried out as well. Later, he and Nizamani visited the ‘I Love Karachi’ area along the green belt of the Sohrab Goth Lyari Expressway, where they planted a sapling.
The mayor said tree planting would be promoted across the city, and urged the city’s residents to participate in the campaign by planting trees and contributing to a greener Karachi. The Bohra community in Karachi celebrated Eidul Azha on Friday, with special congregations held in areas such as Saddar, Pakistan Chowk and Hyderi, and other localities across the city, reports Geo News.
The biggest gathering of the community took place at the Tahiri mosque near Zahid Nihari in Saddar. Special security arrangements were made at all the Bohra mosques across the city, with large contingents of Rangers soldiers and police officials stationed outside. The Eid prayers were followed by the ritual of sacrificing animals.
