‘Teachers’ transfer affecting studies of girls’

GHALLANAI: The local government representatives in Mohmand tribal district on Monday asked the high-ups of the Education Department to take notice of the transfer of women teachers from the far-flung areas as it was affecting the studies of the girl students.

Speaking at a press conference in the Mohmand Press Club, Vice-Chairmen of various neighbourhood and village councils - including Naqab Shah, Dr Majeed Khan, Hikmat Shah, Shoaib Khan, Malik Asfandyar, Hassan Sardar, and others raised concerns about the deteriorating state of education in the region.

They alleged that irregularities, school closures, absenteeism of teachers, and administrative negligence had affected the studies of the girl students in Mohmand.The LG representatives warned that if immediate action was not taken, large-scale protests, including participation by schoolgirls, would be launched.

They said that women teachers were being posted out of the far-flung areas, leaving thousands of girls without access to basic education, adding that the transfers were being ordered in violation of the directives of the chief minister.

The LG representatives said that around 24 schools for girls in various tehsils of Mohmand had been shut down due to transfers of female teachers based on favoritism or political influence. These closures, they added, were putting the future of countless young girls at risk.

They accused the District Education Officer (DEO) of blatantly violating government orders. “The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister had imposed a ban on transfers,” said one speaker, “yet the DEO has completely disregarded those directives.”

The speakers pointed out that literacy rate among girls in Mohmand was already at an alarmingly low level, and it was now nearing a total collapse. They urged the authorities to intervene and take swift action to save education in Mohmand.
