Alleged outlaw killed in Kohat

KOHAT: An alleged outlaw was killed in a police encounter in Shakardara area on the outskirts of Kohat district on Monday.

Regional Police Officer (RPO), Kohat Range, Abbas Majid Marwat, said that the police launched an operation in Shakardara after the intelligence reports about the presence of suspected terrorists.

During the operation, he said, the notorious wanted criminal, dacoit, and facilitator Hamza alias “Baghi” opened fire on the police. “And the outlaw was killed in the ensuing exchange of fire,” he added.

Officials said the Police recovered an SMG rifle, two magazines and ammunition from the deceased. His accomplices managed to escape under the cover of fire, prompting a continued search effort in the area.

The slain criminal and his gang were reportedly involved in several recent robbery incidents in which multiple civilians were killed or injured.The officials said that s search operation was currently underway to apprehend his remaining accomplices.

Meanwhile, District Police Officer Kohat Zahidullah Jan said that effective operations were conducted against terrorists, drug dealers and criminals in Kohat during the first five months of the current year.

Presenting the performance report for the first five months of the year, he said Kohat Police had taken action against criminals, terrorists and drug dealers. The DPO said five criminals and drug dealers were killed during the time, while the Kohat police recovered 342 kg of hashish and 40 kg of ice in anti-drug operations, and cases were registered against 493 suspects involved.

He said 596 declared criminals involved in murder, attempted murder, robbery, dacoity and other crimes were arrested. In operations against illegal weapons, 138 Kalashnikovs, 1240 pistols, 210 guns, and 27,030 cartridges were recovered.

Up to 22 accused were arrested in cases of robbery and dacoity, and stolen goods worth Rs. 830,000 were recovered. He continued that 265 search operations were carried out to maintain law and order, while 388 people involved in aerial firing were arrested and weapons were recovered from their possession.
