Jail inmates to get fresh bread
LAHORE:Punjab Prisons Department has launched an initiative to provide fresh and warm bread to jail inmates across the province by introducing specialized thermal tiffins for food distribution.
Inspector General of Prisons Mian Farooq Niaz said this while addressing a meeting. He said some 4,500 thermal tiffins will be procured, each capable of carrying 40-50 rotis while keeping them warm for up to seven hours during transportation from central kitchens to prison blocks. The stainless steel containers, priced between Rs. 800-1,000 per unit, aim to ensure inmates receive meals at proper temperatures.
"This measure resolves a basic yet essential concern regarding food quality for prisoners," stated IG Niaz, emphasizing that the tiffins will first be deployed in Lahore's jails before expanding to other facilities.
Authorities confirmed the procurement process is underway, with the first batch of thermal tiffins expected to be in use within the coming weeks.
