Man arrested for assaulting minor girl

LAHORE:Police in Nishtar Colony arrested a suspect accused of sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl. The incident occurred when the victim went to a neighbour’s house to fetch water.

According to police officials, the accused, identified as Ilyas, lured the child inside before assaulting her. When the girl cried for help, the suspect allegedly fled by jumping over a wall. The victim’s family immediately alerted authorities, prompting an investigation.

Chowki Sabzi Mandi police traced Ilyas to Tibba Village within hours of the crime. He was taken into custody and handed over to the Gender Crime Cell for further interrogation. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Woman consumes poisonous pills

A 32-year-old woman reportedly attempted to take her own life by consuming poisonous pills following a domestic dispute in the Shahdara area of Lahore. According to police and hospital sources, the woman, identified as Mehak, a resident of Qazi Park, ingested wheat-preserving tablets after allegedly being distressed over ongoing family tensions. She was rushed to Services Hospital by her family members, where doctors described her condition as critical but under treatment.

Police said preliminary investigations suggest the incident was prompted by persistent domestic issues. "We have recorded the family's initial statement, and further inquiry is under way to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident," a police official from Shahdara said.
