MIRANSHAH: The protest by the bereaved families and local residents in North Waziristan’s Mirali Tehsil continued for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, following a tragic bomb explosion that claimed the lives of four children.
The demonstrators have placed the bodies at Mirali Chowk and are refusing to disperse until their demands are met. Police and hospital sources said that the blast occurred in the village of Hormuz, where an explosive device targeted a house, resulting in the deaths of four children aged between 2 and 8 years.
Five other persons, including women and children from the same family, were injured in the explosion. Some of the injured are said to be in a critical condition and have been shifted to Bannu for treatment.
In the aftermath of the incident, a wave of grief and anger has swept through the community. Residents have blocked all major roads leading to and from Mirali, severely disrupting transportation and daily activities in the area. District Police Officer (DPO) Waqar Ahmed stated that negotiations with the protesters are ongoing. “A committee comprising district administration officials, senior police officers, tribal elders, and representatives from political and community groups is in talks with the protesters,” he added.
