Severe heat wave to prevail for four days

LAHORE:Hot and humid weather continued to prevail in the City here on Monday while the Met office predicted similar weather conditions with chances of scattered windstorm during the next 24 hours.

Met officials warned that most plain parts of the country will remain under the grip of severe heat wave for the next four days, due to which day temperature was likely to remain above normal in central/southern Punjab, southern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan.

They said a shallow trough of westerly wave was affecting upper parts of the country while high pressure at upper atmospheric level was prevailing over central/southern parts of the country and likely to persist during next four days.

Met office predicted that mainly hot and dry weather was expected in most parts of the country while very hot in plain areas during day time. However, rain-wind/thunderstorm may occur at isolated places in Kashmir and surroundings areas during afternoon.

Rainfall was recorded at some cities, including Cherat, Pattan, Kakul, Kalam, Drosh, Attock, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Chakwal and Bagrote. Monday’s maximum temperature was recorded at Dadu and Jacobabad where mercury reached 48°C, while in Lahore, it was 42°C. Meanwhile, the average AQI in the city was 97 while the PM2.5 concentration was 6.8 times the World Health Organisation annual PM2.5 guideline value.
