SUKKUR: The officials of Indus River System Authority (Irsa) and Water & Power Development Authority (Wapda) visited Guddu Barrage on Sunday to review the progress of gate installation work under the Sindh Barrages Improvement Project (SBIP).
A high-level delegation comprising Member Irsa (Punjab) Amjad Saeed, Member Irsa (Balochistan) Abdul Hameed Mughal, and Director Irsa (Islamabad) Zeeshan Tarrar, along with the Wapda team led by Executive Engineer (Telemetry) Waseem Hyder, visited the Guddu Barrage to inspect the ongoing gate installation work under the SBIP.
Deputy Project Director, Project Management Office (PMO), SBIP, Noor Ul Arfeen Baloch and Deputy Director Technical PMO SBIP Abdul Fatah Memon, Assistant Engineer PMO SBIP Mumtaz Ghumro, accompanied by the Project Implementation Consultant (PIC), briefed the visiting officials on the progress of the gate installation work being carried out under SBIP S-1 and G-2 packages.
During the visit, Irsa officials highlighted the installation of a telemetry system at 27 key locations across the country’s irrigation network. Out of these, seven critical monitoring points have been selected in Sindh, including three barrages -- RD 109 Pat Feeder Uch, Manuthi Canal, and Garang X Regulator RD 102 NW Canal.
Irsa members inquired about the timeline for the completion of gate installation at Guddu and Sukkur barrages.
Arfeen Baloch informed the delegation that the gate installation work at both barrages was scheduled to be completed by June 2027.
He added that the canal gates of Guddu Barrage had already been completed and were ready for the installation of telemetry sensors by Wapda.
Following the briefing, the delegation inspected the newly installed gates and hoisting system at Guddu Barrage, and appreciated the progress made so far.
