Maxillofacial surgery starts at LGH
LAHOREAmeer Uddin Medical College Principal Prof Dr Al-Fareed Zafar has announced that under the health sector development policy of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery has officially commenced operations at Lahore General Hospital (LGH).
According to the details, patients for surgery of mouth & skull would be treated here properly. Principal LGH added that previously, trauma patients brought to the emergency department of Lahore General Hospital particularly those with fractured jaws and facial bones were referred to other teaching hospitals due to lack of in-house facilities.
However, with the launch of this new department such patients can now get surgical treatment at LGH. This announcement was made during the inaugural ceremony of the newly-established department.
MS Dr Faryad Hussain, Prof Armaghan Israr Mirza, Dr Muhammad Ilyas, Dr M Ayub, Dr Abdul Aziz and health professionals were present on the occasion. Prof Armaghan Israr Mirza informed that a dedicated 20-bed ward has been set up and Outpatient services will be available every Monday and Thursday for clinical assessment and treatment.
Prof Al-Fareed Zafar highlighted that LGH has made significant advancements in various departments over the past few years, providing modern treatment facilities that reflect the commitment and professionalism of healthcare workers. He emphasised that the establishment of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department was made possible with the support and patronage of Punjab Health Minister Health, Khawaja Salman Rafique.
In addition to benefiting Lahore General Hospital patients, this department will also extend services to patients from the Punjab Institute of Neurosciences. Furthermore, it will cater to cosmetic surgical needs offering enhanced support to the community.
Prof Al-Fareed Zafar reiterated that under the vision of CM, the development of the healthcare sector remains a top priority. This new facility for the treatment of oral, facial, and jawbone conditions marks a significant milestone in that journey and is expected to have a far-reaching impact on public health across the region, he concluded.
