ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a steering committee for the implementation of National Tariff Policy (NTP).
Convener of the 11-member steering committee will be Finance Minister Aurangzeb. Other members include Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister of State for Railways Bilal Azhar Kiani, Special Secretary Prime Minister’s Office, Secretary Ministry of Industries and Production Saif Anjum, Dr Manzoor Ahmed, Dr Rubina Athar, Dr Ijaz Nabi and Secretary Commerce Jawad Pal.
The five-point TORs of the committee have been formulated. The committee will use tariff policy as an effective tool to increase exports. It will identify industrial units that may be affected by rationalising tariffs. The committee will formulate a strategy to support them.
The committee will provide guidance and supervision to ensure implementation of National Tariff Policy so that its objectives are achieved.
