ASWJ demands action as leader survives attempt on life
A senior local leader of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Bhutto Colony on Saturday, the latest in a disturbing series of targeted attacks on the party’s members across the city.
According to ASWJ's Karachi spokesperson, Asim, a senior party official linked to Bhutto Colony and North Nazimabad Town, was inside his shop when unidentified gunmen opened fire at him. Fortunately, he was unharmed in the attack.
“We strongly condemn this act of terrorism and demand the immediate arrest of the attackers,” said the spokesperson, stressing that ASWJ leaders and supporters had increasingly been targeted in a troubling pattern that authorities must not ignore. CCTV footage of the incident, which went viral, showed a suspect on a motorcycle who opened fire indiscriminately before fleeing the scene. Police arrived at the crime scene shortly after the attack.
