PESHAWAR: The activists of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Fata chapter, on Monday staged protest outside the Governor’s House and Peshawar High Court against what they said the apathy of the federal government towards the displaced persons from tribal areas.

Led by the PTI leader Iqbal Afridi, the protesters chanted slogans against the government and in favour of their demands. The participants, who had earlier set up a protest camp outside the Peshawar Press Club for 45 days, observed that they had been ignored by the government.

PTI Fata leader Iqbal Afridi said that thousands of IDPs were still leading a miserable life in camps due to apathy of the federal government, governor, Fata Secretariat, Fata Disaster Management Authority and political authorities.

He alleged that the government had received billions of aid in the name of IDPs but no proper measures were taken to facilitate them. The protesters asked the government to facilitate the return of all displaced persons and solve all of their problems. They also demanded abolition of Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) and threaten to stage a sit-in outside the Governor’s House if their demands were not met by Eidul Fitr.
