ATC rejects PTI Kanwal Shozab’s foreign travel plea
Court rejected the application in light of the objections and arguments of the public prosecutor
RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi has dismissed the application filed by Kanwal Shozab, the head of the Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) women’s wing, nominated in the GHQ attack case, seeking permission to travel abroad.
The court rejected the application in light of the objections and arguments of the public prosecutor. During the hearing on Thursday, Special Prosecutor Zaheer Shah took the position that the applicant is a named accused in 12 cases registered in the Rawalpindi Division related to May 9. So far, an indictment has been filed in only one case related to May 9, and an indictment is yet to be filed in the remaining 11 cases. The presence of the accused is necessary for the indictment. If the accused goes abroad, there may be an obstacle to the trial.
The lawyer’s position was that another family member or the father could go to the US and attend the graduation ceremony of his son.
The Supreme Court’s direction has also come regarding the hearing of cases related to May 9, on which the court dismissed the application.
It should be remembered that Kanwal Shozab had applied on May 3 of this month seeking permission to travel to the US.
