Commissioner orders crackdown on substandard LPG cylinders, illegal cattle markets
Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi chaired a meeting at his office on Thursday, directing all the deputy commissioners (DCs) to launch immediate and comprehensive operations against the sale of substandard Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders until their complete elimination.
The meeting was attended by Karachi Additional Inspector General of Police (Additional IGP) Javed Alam Odho, Traffic DIG Peer Muhammad Shah, Traffic South SSP Soha Aziz, Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) LPG Committee Convener Ali Haider, Zahid Ahmed of the LPG Association, assistant commissioners, and representatives from municipal bodies, Civil Defence and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) .
Naqvi issued special directives to District East and District Keamari DCs for conducting strict operations at hotspots, including Mauripur and Sohrab Goth. The representatives of the FPCCI and LPG Association identified key locations where hazardous LPG cylinders were being sold and assured full cooperation from the LPG Association during the crackdown.
The commissioner instructed Civil Defence officials not to issue no-objection certificates without complete verification. He also emphasised that LPG cylinders must not be installed in school vans and asked the deputy commissioners to take appropriate measures. SSP Soha informed the meeting that traffic police had already taken action against hundreds of vehicles in this regard.
In a separate meeting on cattle markets, the commissioner ordered immediate removal of all illegal cattle markets, particularly in Gadap, Ibrahim Haidery, Ismail Goth and those set up on roadsides.
